FAQ

The awkward questions

Asked by every student, parent, and advisor so far. Answered plainly.

Is this religious or political?
No. FFX is a cultural exchange between friends — locals and foreigners who want the same summer. There is no agenda beyond the exchange itself.
Is Kyrgyzstan safe?
Kyrgyzstan is one of Central Asia's most visited and most open countries, and Bishkek is a normal, lively capital city. You'll also never be exploring alone — half the cohort grew up here. Usual travel common sense applies, same as anywhere.
Do I need Russian? Do I need English?
You need one of them — that's the whole point. Foreigners bring English and pick up Russian; locals bring Russian (and Kyrgyz!) and sharpen their English. The cohort is the classroom.
Why is there no fee? What's the catch?
There is no catch. FFX is not a business — nobody profits, nobody is paid. You cover your own room, board, and travel, and that's the entire economics of it.
Can my parents talk to someone?
Yes, and they should — write to ForeignFriendsXCentralAsia@gmail.com and ask anything, or request a call. There's also a whole page for them.
What if I need to leave early?
Emergencies happen and nobody will trap you in Kyrgyzstan. But FFX is built as one cohort for the full seven weeks — everyone stays and travels together — so come planning to be there start to finish.
Who exactly is behind this?
FFX is organized from Bishkek — not a company, not an agency, nobody paid. Write to ForeignFriendsXCentralAsia@gmail.com and a real person answers. FFX exists because this exchange is worth having, not because anyone makes money on it.
Do I have to stay the whole time?
Yes — FFX is the full seven weeks, July 3 – August 21, 2026. It's one cohort doing the whole summer together; there's no partial version.

Coming to Kyrgyzstan this summer?

July 3 – August 21, 2026 · No program fee — you pay your own room and board.
